GREAT Reference book! September 13, 2008 Flyfishingpilot (FL, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is simply the best book for anyone who wants to discover the wonderful world of fishing from a kayak.
Well written, beautifully illustrated, crystal clear step-by-step instructions on how to choose, rig and fish from a kayak, loads of practical tips, it will entertain everyone from true beginners to advanced anglers. I thought in my 35+ years of fishing and reading countless book on fishing, I knew just about everything there was know. Instead, I found myself taking notes and getting excited at the prospect of applying some of the techniques I just learned. Nothing wrong with getting an edge over your fishing buddies!
Another great bonus in this book is the chapter outlining some of the best fishing spots. Follow the author's instructions and you'll catch more fish. It's as simple as that.
This is one of these books that I'll read again and again. All my nephews and nieces will get this book for Christmas. This book has so many nice pictures that it will draw them in and make them want to be part of it. Nothing more would be rewarding to me than to see them paddle around, catch fish and being outside instead of sitting in front of a computer.
Must Read for Kayak Fishing Neophytes October 18, 2008 Jeffrey Suber (Crawfordville, Florida) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book covers all of the bases and is a must read for anyone that is getting ready to plunge into the world of kayak fishing whether it be in fresh or saltwater. There is some great information about choosing your kayak, and using lures, or livebait. You can read about paddles, rods, reels, lines, hooks, knots, anchors, GPS, fishfinders, and batteries for electronics. There is even information on transporting your kayak. Cory covers it all. There is even information on kayak clubs, and organizations. If you have some knowledge of fishing, well wait til you read this book. And to improve upon that knowledge check out the kayak fishing groups listed in your area, and join a local kayak fishing organization. You will look back and realize how little you really knew. Get out there and meet folks and learn from those that have already "Been there and done that". You can read it 20 times and still come away learning something. Knowledge is power. Be powerful and take advantage of the great sport of kayak fishing, its just fun. Enjoy.
Sincerely
Jeff Suber
More than just great pictures March 4, 2009 nobody 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first received this book I thought it didn't contain much useful content because the book had a lot of pictures. However, after reading through the book a couple of times I can agree with the other reviewers that this book contains a lot of very useful information for someone looking to get into kayak fishing. One caveat though is that the author has affiliations with some of the product vendors that are given prominence in the book. Not a bad thing but something to be aware of if you are looking to purchase products based off of information in this book. If you are looking to buy a kayak the one consistent piece of advice I keep seeing is that you absolutely must test drive the kayak (ideally many kayaks) before you buy it. What might be the best kayak for one person could be the worst for someone else.
Great book! October 22, 2008 Henry L. Cassani (Chesapeake, Va United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have Kayak fished for a few years now and thought I knew most there was to know but I learned a few new things from reading the book. It's well written and very well illustrated and a must have for anyone interested in Kayak fishing.
Just getting into kayaks and kayak fishing? This is your book! January 23, 2009 J. Rendall (Orange, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is written for beginers, but would probably have information for those of you who have already jumped in to the sport.
For beginers, this is a tremendous value! It covers all the subjects I wanted to know about from kayak & paddle types, safety gear, what to wear for the different seasons, paddling lessons, fishing gear, fishing spots, how to fish in a kayak (topics like how to safely land a large fish), even tips on what food to take and how to pack it.
After reading the book, I feel very prepared to do the sport safely, comfortly, and effectively. In fact, I'll be fishing this weekend!
