5 out of 5 stars California Delta Flyfishing   February 1, 2010
Steven Pechin (LODI, CA, US)
Mike Costello's book is a must read for anyone considering fishing for Striped Bass with a fly rod. As a lure/ bait angler looking for another challenge, I appreciated the detailed info on equipment, habitat to look for, differences in technique depending on the seasons, water temp. and conditions, tides, etc. The author even shares information from other guides, not just his opinions. Costello also provides his catch rate data for various months, organized by size range, so you can see the best time of year to fish for numbers or size of fish. The pictures in the book are outstanding! Everything in the book gets you fired up to gear up and get out on the water.

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate Fly Fishing Guide Book for the CA Delta   February 10, 2010
The Worker Bee (California)
If you want to learn about fishing the CA Delta, this is the ultimate guide book. Whether you're on the fly, or a conventional lure or bait fisher, you can learn a great deal from Mike Costello and his approach to fishing the Delta. It's a beautiful book too, the pictures are phenominal. Suitable for the coffee table, but informational as a Guide book.

The book covers everything from the history of the Delta to fishing different areas and what equipment to use for various fish species, especially Striped Bass (the ultimate game fish). Several other Delta guides and captains have lent their expertise to the book as well. It's just a great resource and throughly enjoyable.

Mike Costello is the best Fly Fishing guide in the Delta too! Mike puts in more days on the water than any other guide I know of in the area. Fly fishing for Stripers with Mike is a fantastic experience. We've fished with him several times over the years and have never been dissapointed. Mike fishes hard and you'll work for your Striper but it is a blast. Some of my best days on the river have been those spent out with Mike. The Delta is a huge and sprawling fishery, learn from the best and go take a trip with Mike.

Get the book. Practice Catch & Release to preserve the Delta fishery for our children - and Fish On!

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining, practical and relevent   April 9, 2010
Donald Luna (Fontana, CA)
This book is a fantastic read! I could not put it down...he provides excellent tactical information and techniques that every fly fisher should know before fishing the Delta. The stories of his clients and friends experiences draw the reader in to the lesson he is delivering and the photos really bring it home for the reader! It makes you want to catch the next flight to Sacramento! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who not only wants to catch stripers, but to anyone that loves to fly fish!

5 out of 5 stars If you fish, you'll love this book   May 17, 2010
H. O. Coldani (Stockton, CA)
The photography is very good. The book is well organized, well written and contains a wealth of useful information. The author widens the knowledge of Delta fishing by quotes from other guides in the California Delta area. The book is useful to all fisher-persons, not just fly fishing types.

5 out of 5 stars If you read one book on Fishing the Delta, read THIS!   August 12, 2010

I have fished with this author twice now, and I can assure you, this man knows what he's talking about.
His tactics and ability to seek fish are incredible. I would consider Costello to be the foremost authority on fishing the Delta. I have never met a guide that knew more about the migration patterns of Stripers, waterways, tides, underwater weedbed hot-spots and so on. For him to document this in this book is incredible, read it, you won't be dissapointed! If you get the chance to fish with him, do it, it's worth every penny!
