Grassroots

Fishing Mentors was formed to provide supportive role models and positive fishing experiences for at-risk youth ages 10 to 17.  There are many young people who need positive influences in their lives.  Fishing Mentors hopes that participants who complete the program will learn more than just how to fish, but how to live better lives, do well in school, and display healthier behaviors.

Fishing Mentors is designed and implemented with the safety of each mentee as a primary concern.  Each mentee is matched with a caring and supportive mentor who is properly screened, trained, and monitored.  Through the development of trusting relationships, mentors encourage their mentees to continue their positive attitudes towards school, education, and healthy behaviors.  The program seeks the broad support and collaboration of parents and other community based organizations.  Participants complete satisfaction surveys, and these assessments, as well as an overall evaluation of the operating system, is used to foster improvements in the program.
